OBJECTIVES
The aim of the Wildlife Division is to increase the population of wildlife in the protected areas to the optimum level. It is therefore important to make sure that no animal is hunted or killed. Therefore prevention of poaching is one of the main activity of this Division. This is done by regular patrolling of the areas during the periods when animals are at a high risk from the hunters guns. Patrolling also helps in detecting cases of poaching or habitat destruction for which remedial measures are taken as per the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972 which imposes heavy penalty for offences in sanctuaries or for offences against scheduled animals. The no. of wildlife offences booked during the previous years is as given below:

The Wildlife Division also has to ensure that sufficient quantity of food is available to the animals well spread out within the sanctuary through out the year. This division has taken steps to eradicate the unpalatable weeds which generally grow very fast and subdue the palatable grasses and shrubs thereby reducing the fodder availability. In this programme, the weeds are uprooted but other plants having fodder value are not touched allowing them to grow. Wherever spaces are available edible fruit bearing species of grasses are grown during the monsoon. These acts as feeding centres for the major herbivores.
Animals need water every day therefore wherever springs are observed these are developed to a certain extent to induce formation ponds of water. In certain areas check dams are put up so that greater seepage of water into the ground occurs during the rainy day. For better health of the animals salt licks which are scientifically made are provided at all water holes.
With increasing awareness about the environment and ecology, more and more people are turning to nature for pleasure, entertainment and information. The Wildlife Division caters to the needs of the people by providing facilities for the people to get close to nature and to help them to understand nature.
