WILDLIFE SANCTUARIES
Wildlife
sanctuaries are areas which are set for the proliferation for animals and
plants living therein by ensuring that the habitat is not damaged. When we
talk of animals here we do not mean the higher mammals alone, but all living
species other than plants from the tiniest ants and beetle to the largest
herbivore, the elephant. This will include even germs, fungi and bacteria.
In Goa, we have one National Park, one bird sanctuary and five wildlife sanctuaries
the largest being the Bhagwan Mahavir Wildlife Sanctuary. The areas under
these are as given below:
